Ryan Melcher

Lead Software Engineer

I lead a team building web and mobile applications, theming infrastructure, and developer tooling for a growing roster of agencies. Most of my work is about making decisions easier: smoothing workflows and putting guardrails in place so developers can move without waiting on permission.

I do my best work on small teams that collaborate closely and ship often. I care deeply about design and maintainability, and I've become more interested in how tools can help designers, architects, and engineers build better interfaces together.

Experience

Pennant Services

Lead Software Engineer

  • Lead the team behind our web and mobile applications, focused on developer outcomes and maintainability as the software scales across a growing number of agencies.
  • Built the theming infrastructure that lets one codebase serve every agency with its own branding, so onboarding a new one is configuration rather than a fork.
  • Own the path to production (CI/CD, containerized services, infrastructure as code) which turned releases from events into routine.
  • Set the team's workflow conventions and build internal tooling that removes the repetitive parts of the job.

American National Bank

Software Engineer

  • Built and maintained internal applications using Retool as the primary interface layer, supporting loan servicing, card management, treasury services, fraud monitoring, and other core business units with real-time operational visibility.
  • Built a centralized SQL data warehouse aggregating data from multiple core banking systems, cutting report generation from days or hours to minutes.
  • Integrated applications with backend systems built in Node.js, .NET, and SQL, exposing secure, standardized APIs and datasets that non-technical teams could safely extend.

  • Terraform
  • Retool
  • AWS

American National Bank

Junior Software Engineer

  • Used data analytics to find pain points within the business, where data itself needed improving across its 900,000+ user files.
  • Developed APIs that communicated directly to the banking core system.
  • Created a site to automate the processing and resolution of inconsistencies within user data.

Projects

Agency Insight and Patient Management

Internal · Pennant Services · 2024 – Present

Web and mobile applications that give agencies a shared view of their patients and their operations. One codebase serves a growing roster of agencies, each with its own branding, through theming infrastructure and shared tooling so onboarding a new agency is configuration rather than a fork.

  • TypeScript

Customer Integration Application

Internal · American National Bank · 2021 – 2024

Connected the core banking system to a custom data lake so product settings stayed current daily, and folded Adobe e-signature into the onboarding flow. Staff could then run a customer onboarding request end to end (request, documents, signature, approval) in one place instead of across several systems.

AWS and Core Banking Migration

Internal · American National Bank · 2023 – 2024

Helped move the bank’s technology core to Q2 and lift every application into AWS. The work retired on-premise dependencies and put the bank’s systems on infrastructure that could actually scale with them, without breaking the integrations the business ran on.
